City Breaks - Prague
Uni doesn’t just present a great opportunity for long hot summers away with a rucksack strapped to your back and a lonely planet clasped in your hands, heading for that “off the beaten track destination”. To be fair most of us never have 9-5.30 lectures Monday to Friday, and this presents a perfect excuse to head away somewhere closer to home for a long weekend, well after all what is that student loan for? I have found (and sampled myself) five great city breaks accessible by a short flight or train ride, and given you some tips about what not to miss for an all round social and cultural weekend away.
-
Old Town Square and Astronomical Clock which includes a clockwork hourly show of figures of the Apostles and other moving sculptures
-
Charles Bridge – the famous historical bridge which is definitely worth a visit
-
The Prague Castle – will beat Edinburgh castle for size – one of the largest castles in the world, and the Crown Jewels of the Bohemian Kingdom are here.
-
The Lennon Wall – this used to be just any regular wall but is a must visit now for beetles fans – it is inscribed with John Lennon-inspired graffiti and pieces of lyrics from Beatles songs.
-
Cheep Beer – If whisky isn’t your think, Beer may well be, and it doesn’t get much cheaper than here!
