As well as just living for the nights , the freshers’ fayre is an essential port of call for sometime daytime fun to be organised. But please don’t fall into the clichéd pitfall of ‘panic-joining’ as many societies as possible. There are only so many hours in the day and let’s face it, there may not be an official society called ‘idleness,’ but by becoming a student you must assume natural membership to it. Therefore you have to be realistic about how much actual time you have on your hands. So prioritise your true interests and maybe sign up to one or two new things maximum, as there is no point wasting money on membership fees. And for future reference, remember that the fayre is NOT your only opportunity to join these societies as most of them have sign-up opportunities throughout the year.
Top tip:
you must root out all the freebies from the banks and phone companies as an extra mug – albeit with a naf logo print – always comes in useful. In my fresher year I recall popcorn makers were the rave – so keep those eyes peeled and have scavenger instincts at the ready.
